Our Mission Statements

Through the unprecedented challenges we are currently facing, we now offer a 100% virtual, 100% FREE, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) Competition for youths grades 6-9 throughout CANADA! The Canada CyberSTEAM Challenge (C3) is a series of six 48-hour challenges that students in grades 6-9 located anywhere in Canada can compete alone or with a partner in the comfort of their own homes.

#1: Integration of the Arts into STEM fields

To promote a more creative and holistic approach to learning, the C3 challenges allow for hands-on exploration of the Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) disciplines. All of our challenges have been designed to provide an in-depth learning opportunity involving each of the five STEAM pillars.

#2: Thinking Outside the Box

C3 is structured in an open-ended manner, with a scoring system designed to credit the most innovative and original solutions. All C3 challenges are designed to have multiple correct solutions.

How will the challenges work?

Each challenge will be posted on the C3 website: http://canadacybersteamchallenge.com at 12:00AM MDT on the date of the challenge and will close at 11:59PM MDT the following day. Participants will have the 48-hour period to complete the challenge, and upload their completed project to the C3 Team Drive. Project submissions will be judged and scores will be released on the C3 website about a week after the challenge closes.

What do I need to do before the C3 challenges?

One week before each C3 challenge date, the C3 team will release a tutorial video on the C3 website: http://canadacybersteamchallenge.com/tutorials. The tutorial videos outline background information relating to each challenge. While it is not mandatory for participants to watch these videos, they are provided to give you a better understanding of the concepts explored in the challenges, and may help your performance in the competition!

What are the C3 challenge dates?

October 17-18, 2020

November 14-15, 2020

December 5-6, 2020

February 13-14, 2021

February 27-28, 2021

March 27-28, 2021

What if I need help with a challenge?

The C3 team has developed a Virtual TA program accessible 24/7. If you are struggling with a challenge or having technological issues, you can quickly reach a Virtual TA anytime during our 48-hour challenge period!

If I sign up for C3 with a partner, will me and my partner be able to work on the challenges from separate locations or do we have to be physically together?

For some of the challenges, working remotely with your partner will make it more difficult, so it is recommended to be physically together with your partner for the challenges with a building component. The exception would be Challenge#2 which can be done remotely. We do want to remind you that all challenges are meant to be achievable individually! If it is difficult to be physically together with your partner, it is possible to do it on your own.

What strength of Internet connection will I need for C3?

Our team anticipates that roughly 5 hours worth of stable Internet access during the 48-hour challenge period will be more than enough to complete our challenges. However, we recognize that our participants come from different backgrounds and this may not be possible for all participants. The computer-based portions of our challenges can be completed with free, downloadable software, and there are also aspects of the challenges which do not require computer usage! If you are concerned about your or your child’s ability to participate in C3 due to connectivity issues, please email ysic@teamupscience.com and our team will be happy to provide individualized accommodations!

Do I have to complete all five C3 challenges?

No, you may complete as many or as few challenges as you wish. Prizes will be given out for performance on individual challenges, as well as for overall performance on all five challenges. Check out our C3 leaderboard here: http://canadacybersteamchallenge.com/leaderboard.
