FAQ

How will the challenges work?

On Saturdays, teams will sign onto the Airmeet link included on their welcome package for either the morning or afternoon session. Students will then cycle through 6 Sprint tasks and 2 Intermediate tasks.

On Sundays, 1 Marathon challenge will be posted on the C3 website (http://canadacybersteamchallenge.com) at 12:00AM MDT on the date of the challenge and will close at 4:59PM MDT. Participants will have 17 hours to complete the challenge, although the challenge is only designed to take around 2.5 hours. Project submissions will be judged live at 6:00PM MDT via Zoom and scores will be released during the closing ceremony as well as on the C3 website about a week after the challenge closes.

Do Grade 6 students compete directly against Grade 12 students?

Yes and no. While all students do compete directly against each other, participants are subdivided into 2 tiers: Junior High (grades 6-9) and High School (grades 10-12). Each tier has different challenge requirements based on the curriculum of the grades it encompasses. The numerical scores from each tier will be scaled and weighed directly against each other.

What do I need to do before the C3 challenges?

One week before each C3 challenge date, the C3 team will release a tutorial video on the C3 website (http://canadacybersteamchallenge.com/tutorials). The tutorial videos outline background information relating to each challenge. While it is not mandatory for participants to watch these videos, they are provided to give you a better understanding of the concepts explored in the challenges, and may help your performance in the competition!

What are the C3 challenge dates?

November 13th-14th, 2021

February 5th-6th, 2022

When are the morning and afternoon sessions?

The morning sessions run from 8:15AM MST to 12:30PM MST. The afternoon sessions run from 1:00PM MST to 5:15PM MST. Participants only need to attend one of the two sessions as both sessions are the same.

What if I need help with a challenge?

If you need assistance with Sprints and Marathons, you are welcome to contact your Station Moderator as you are completing the challenges. If you require assistance with a Marathon Challenge, please call one of the Help Phone Numbers provided in your welcome package.

If I sign up for C3 with a partner, will me and my partner be able to work on the challenges from separate locations or do we have to be physically together?

The requirements for each challenge is different! For some of the challenges, working remotely with your partner will make it more difficult, so it would be recommended to be physically together with your partner for the challenges with a building component. Some of the challenges in partners can be done remotely and you would not have to be physically together. We do want to remind you that all challenges are meant to be achievable individually! If it is difficult to be physically together with your partner, it is possible to do it on your own.

What strength of Internet connection will I need for C3?

Stable Internet is required for the Saturday portion of the challenges. However, if your Internet connection drops unexpectedly we do have accommodations for that. For the Sunday portion, our team anticipates that roughly 2.5 hours worth of stable Internet access during the 17-hour challenge period will be more than enough to complete our challenges. However, we recognize that our participants come from different backgrounds and this may not be possible for all participants. The computer-based portions of our challenges can be completed with free, downloadable software, and there are also aspects of the challenges which do not require computer usage! If you are concerned about your or your child’s ability to participate in C3 due to connectivity issues, please email c3submissions@teamupscience.com and our team will be happy to provide individualized accommodations!

Do I have to complete all of the C3 challenges?

No, you may complete as many or as few challenges as you wish. Prizes will be given out for performance on individual challenges, as well as for overall performance. Check out our C3 leaderboard here (http://canadacybersteamchallenge.com/leaderboard).
