The Youth STEAM Innovation Challenge (YSIC) is an interdisciplinary competition for junior high students (grades 7-9) that aims to foster creative thinking and teamwork skills. YSIC is a day-long circuit-style competition in which teams of 2 will be exposed to a series of short and long challenges.
YSIC aims to bring two critical concepts to its participants.
#1: Integration of the Arts into STEM fields
To promote a more creative and holistic approach to learning, YSIC is a team competition in which students complete a series of challenges based upon Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM). All of our challenges have been designed to include a minimum of two of the five pillars.
#2: Thinking Outside the Box
YSIC is structured in an open-ended manner, with a scoring system designed to credit the most innovative and original solutions. All YSIC challenges are designed to have multiple correct solutions.
This year, YSIC will take place on Saturday, June 11th from 9am - 4:30pm at the Edmonton Clinic Health Academy at the University of Alberta!
